Topic: Missouri Commission on Human Rights

Speaker: Dr. Alisa Warren, Executive Director

The mission of the Missouri Commission on Human Rights is to develop, recommend, and implement ways to prevent and eliminate discrimination and to provide fair and timely resolutions of discrimination claims through enforcement of the Missouri Human Rights Act.

The Missouri Human Rights Act prohibits discrimination in housing, employment, and places of public accommodations based on race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, sex, disability, age (in employment only), and familial status (in housing only). The Act also makes it unlawful to retaliate against an individual for filing a complaint of discrimination, testifying or assisting in an investigation, or proceeding under the Act. Additionally, the Act protects individuals against discrimination on the basis of their association with a person in a protected category. Individuals who believe they have been discriminated against for any of those reasons can file a complaint with the Missouri Commission on Human Rights (MCHR).
