What is Mental Health First Aid?
Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders. This 6.5-hour training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help them to connect with the appropriate care.
Learn how to:
- assess for risk of suicide or harm
- listen and interact with a person in crisis
- identify common signs / symptoms of mental illness
- identify common signs / symptoms of substance abuse
- connect the person with help
- administer naloxone in the event of an opioid overdose
NOTE: Internet pre-work required. Registration deadline is one week prior to training date.
